Comprehensive Clinical Review in General Surgery

This course is co-sponsored with The Southwestern Surgical Congress and designed to cover virtually every aspect of general surgery with a special focus on clinical surgery. The distinguished national faculty of surgical authorities will translate current surgical literature into clinically applicable material that you will be able to apply immediately to your own practice or incorporate into your individual studies. It is intended to assist the general surgeon in reviewing the areas of general surgery that may no longer be current in that surgeon's practice. This course will incorporate basic science principles applicable to clinical practice.

In addition, this course offers 25.75 credit hours in Category 1 of the Physicians Recognition Award of the American Medical Association and meets the requirements of Part II of the American Board of Surgery Maintenance of Certification

The 2007 Comprehensive Clinical Review Course will be in Atlanta.  Dates and location are to be determined.

The annual scientific meetings are held in outstanding hotel facilities in the Southeast where family activities are an attractive addition to the overall program. The scientific meeting usually begins on the first Sunday in February with other offerings preceding the scientific meeting.

A few years ago the Congress began a Residents' Forum on the Saturday preceding the annual scientific meeting so that residents would have an opportunity to present their research papers on surgical topics and discuss them with their peers in a non-competitive setting. This Forum is designed to give residents experience in presenting and handling discussion from an assigned discusser and questions from the audience.

A Postgraduate course is offered on Saturday  prior to the scientific meeting. Each course covers one assigned topic in depth with experts making presentations on many facets of the subject. Topics are selected based on information from previous participants and a "need to know" basis, including cutting edge technology and techniques.

The foremost surgical educators and private-practice surgeons participate in the annual scientific meeting of the Congress, Sunday through Tuesday. The program is constructed of talks from prominent invited speakers, papers selected from abstracts submitted, panels on current socioeconomic topics, and clinical panel discussions with prominent academic surgeons and practicing surgeons to give the audience a full perspective on the latest surgical treatment of a variety of topics for general surgeons. In recent years videotapes of surgical procedures, particularly laparoscopic topics, have become an important part of the program. We welcome comments about topics that surgeons would like to see addressed at both the postgraduate courses and the program.

Commercial exhibits are included as a part of the
educational offering with companies providing the latest in surgical technology.
