Rules of Presentation and Information for Authors Presenting Posters
THE SOUTHEASTERN SURGICAL CONGRESS

Poster presenters are encouraged, but not required, to submit a manuscript to The American Surgeon.
February 18, 2016. Absolute Due Date for Poster Manuscripts to be submitted to The American Surgeon on-line. Go to "American Surgeon Journal" here on the website and click on "Authors". Remember to make note that the manuscript will be presented as a poster at the 2016 annual meeting.
ALL poster presenters are required to register for the Scientific Sessions and pay appropriate fees.
PHYSICAL DATA FOR POSTER
Size - 4' x 4' "tackable" board
Color - Background color not available prior to meeting
Structure - Use graphs, drawings, and photographs with narrative text for a more interesting poster. As a minimum use 24 point type for narrative and 32 point type for headings to be legible several feet away.
Materials - Bring thumbtacks or push pins to mount materials to poster.
Time - Attend your poster during breaks of the meeting each day as much as possible, but especially at the time scheduled for rounding.
Privacy - Protect patients by eliminating ALL patient or hospital identification from photos, charts, etc.
PRESENTING YOUR POSTER
Your Audience - You will be speaking to experienced surgeons and surgeons in training who wish to learn from your experience and research. Data should contain information that will help them improve the quality of care for their surgical patients and stimulate ideas and interest in surgical education.
Each Poster will be FIVE minutes, thus be brief and succinct when presenting you poster:
- The title
- The Aim/ Goals of your Study
- KEY results (Not all the results, just the important points)
- Conclusions – What should the audience learn from your poster
Be prepared to answer questions put to you by the Rounding Professors or by surgeons who are making rounds with the Professors. Residents should have a senior author or faculty adviser on hand to assist with discussion.
Your Presentation - Your poster must be up by 6:15 AM Sunday, February 21, and must stay up until 12:00 PM on Monday, February 22. You must remove it by 4:00 PM on February 22. The Southeastern Surgical Congress is not responsible for any materials remaining after 4:00 PM. You must be at the poster during Grand Rounds and breaks on Sunday and Monday. This requires that you arrive in Atlanta on Saturday, February 20, 2016, and not leave until after 2:00 PM on Monday, February 22, 2016. You are also required to register for the Scientific Meeting and pay appropriate fees.The CME Committee will select a team of Rounding Professors to visit your poster for a few minutes of discussion. You may post your poster during the Welcome Reception on Saturday, February 20, from 5:30 - 7:00 PM.
The link above will bring up the poster rounding schedule and the list of posters. The number (P#) before your abstract title is your poster board number. Please note that your your poster board number and your abstract number ARE NOT be the same.
PUBLICATION OF PAPERS PRESENTED IN POSTER SESSION
Information is for preparing manuscripts of papers presented in the Poster Session to be considered for publication in THE AMERICAN SURGEON. All manuscripts must be submitted electronically. Information guidelines are available on our website, www.sesc.org. When submitting manuscript, please note that the paper is being presented as a poster at the 2016 Annual Scientific meeting.
