Postgraduate Courses

Interventional Endoscopy and Laparoscopy
Coordinator: Gary C. Vitale, M.D., Louisville, KY

This course provided surgeons an update on advanced endoscopic and laparoscopic techniques with an emphasis on the new endoscopic approaches to anti-reflux disease. The highlight of the course was the four to five hours of direct live video transmission from Paris, France, of actual endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures done by world renown experts. These techniques included interventional biliary endoscopy (ERCP), laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication, complex upper and lower endoscopy, along with the new flexible endoscopic suture technique for gastroesophageal reflux.

The video program was supplemented by a locally conducted didactic program emphasizing technical tips to perform these procedures, including the newly approved FDA techniques for gastroesophageal reflux of endoscopic suture application and radio frequency ablation.
