2008 Scientific Meeting
PRINT THESE INSTRUCTIONS 2008 On-Line Abstract Submission Instructions (These instructions are for on-line submissions only. For paper submission, please refer to instructions included with form. Call 800/558-8958 or 404/255-4549 to request paper forms.) The Continuing Medical Education Committee of the Southeastern Surgical Congress invites any qualified surgeon to submit an abstract of a paper to be considered for presentation at the annual scientific meeting to he held at the Sheraton Birmingham, Birmingham, Alabama, February 9 -12, 2008. Deadline for all abstract submissions is July 5, 2007 Abstracts will be acknowledged both by immediate submission confirmation on the internet and by mail by within a week of submission. If you have not received a confirmation in the mail by July 13, 2007 please contact us. Authors will be notified in writing by September, 2007, of acceptance. Only surgeons or surgeons in training may present papers on the program. Medical Students, Nurses, and Physicians Assistants are not considered surgeons in training. There must have been no prior presentation or publication of the paper or videotape. Residents in surgery are invited to submit abstracts of papers to be considered for presentation as a Gold Medal paper at the meeting. You must also be a Resident in February, 2008 to present a Gold Medal paper. Preference will be given those that present clinical research. Abstracts may also be considered for the regular program and the Residents' Forum. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS Title of the paper should be clear and concise. This on-line form will allow a maximum of 1800 characters using 12 point type, single spaced. Edit carefully and check for typographical errors. Abstracts will be reduced and printed exactly as submitted. There must have been no prior presentation or publication of the paper or DVD/videotape. The first author listed is considered the principal and presenting author. Correspondence will be addressed to the first author and if applicable, the Program Director. Please include all authors in the block provided. Address changes should be sent to the Congress after the abstract is submitted. Do not identify your institution or city in your title or body of text. Tables and graphs may not be included in abstracts. Be sure to check either Scientific Program, Gold Medal Forum, Videotape or Poster Only. Authors will have ten minutes for presentation of the paper with ten minutes allowed for discussion. The CME Committee will assign discussers for each paper. A manuscript, prepared according to guidelines of THE AMERICAN SURGEON, must be turned in prior to the meeting for all papers selected for the Scientific Program and will be considered for publication in THE AMERICAN SURGEON. Manuscripts must also be sent to discusser no later than December, 2007. All abstracts chosen for presentation of any kind, must register and pay appropriate fees for the Scientific Meeting.
SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS FOR VIDEOTAPE, GOLD MEDAL AND POSTER ABSTRACTS VIDEOTAPE PRESENTATIONS - Specific Instructions The Continuing Medical Education Committee of the Southeastern Surgical Congress will review and select videotapes for showing at the 2008 scientific meeting of the Congress. All videotapes submitted for review must meet specifications as shown below. A. Options:

Actual film/DVD and abstract must arrive by the deadline of July 5, 2007. Discussers for each videotape will be assigned by the CME Committee. The master copy will become the property of the Southeastern Surgical Congress if accepted for showing on the 2008 program. DVD/Videotapes may be reproduced for sale by the Southeastern Surgical Congress. GOLD MEDAL FORUM ABSTRACTS - Specific Instructions Only those who will be surgical Residents or surgical Fellows in February, 2008 may present papers in the Gold Medal Forum. Six papers will be selected from the submitted abstracts for presentation in the Gold Medal Forum. Clinical research projects applicable to surgery will be given primary consideration. Each author whose abstract is selected will receive a cash award for $500 and a Gold Medal. A panel of judges will select the "Best Paper" which will receive an additional cash award. Abstracts submitted for the Gold Medal Forum may be considered for presentation in the following categories: 1. Gold Medal Forum 2. Regular Scientific Program. 3. Surgical Residents' Forum. 4. Poster presentations. Authors will be notified of the decision of the CME Committee in September, 2007. Details will be provided at the time of notification.
POSTER SESSION ABSTRACTS - Specific Instructions Increased emphasis has been placed on the Poster Session by the CME Committee. Abstracts may be submitted only for the Poster Session. Other abstracts sent may also be considered for the Poster Session. Posters will be presented in a Grand Rounds format at an assigned time. Presenters are required to be present every day during Grand Rounds and breaks of the meeting as stated in the program. Presenters must agree to abide by Poster Presentation Rules that will be sent with the Poster Acceptance letter. If you will be unable to fulfill the requirements, please do not accept a poster position. Failure to comply with the rules of Poster Presentation may prevent you and/or your institution from submitting abstracts in the future.
